Changes based on community feedback
As part of our commitment to community engagement, we’ve made a number of changes based on what we heard from you.
You said:
We need a community space for local events and activities
We did: Following your feedback, as well as conversations with Sandridge Parish Council, and reflecting the aspirations of the local Neighbourhood Plan, the proposals now include a dedicated community space. This will provide a flexible venue for local groups, events, and activities, helping to strengthen community connection, it will be managed by the parish and opened as part of Phase one.

Access routes should support walking and the existing public rights of way
We did: We’ve worked closely with stakeholders, including the Ramblers Association, to improve pedestrian and public access across the site. We’ve preserved and improved footpaths, added a new permissive rambler route to the northeast, and redesigned paths to make them safer, more direct, and easier to use – while keeping safeguarding at Oaklands College a priority.

You said:
Infrastructure and services must keep pace with growth
We did: The plans include land safeguarded for a new two-form entry primary school, a 70-bed extra care home (with 40% affordable units), and enhanced bus services.

You said:
The college should be more open for community use
We did: We’re exploring ways for the college’s buildings and outdoor spaces to be more widely available for local people. We’re seeking funding for a community garden and a second sports pavilion for potentially hockey, cycling and athletics, alongside the cricket pavilion.

You said:
We are concerned about road safety and crossings on Sandpit Lane
We did: We’ve listened to your concerns. A brand-new crossing is planned outside the site on Sandpit Lane, and we’ll also be upgrading existing crossings. These changes will make it safer and easier to cross, while helping traffic flow more smoothly.

You said:
We would like routes that keep a rural look and feel
We did: The plans now include two new permissive ‘rambler’ routes, designed to maintain a rural character and feel.
