FAQs

Your key questions answered

Why does the college need to undertake this development?

In order to continue providing education and training, the college needs to invest in new state-of-the-art teaching facilities and buildings. The current facilities are no longer fit for purpose, with maintenance and running costs ever-increasing.

When could the new facilities open?

Some of the new facilities could open as early as 2025 with most of the major building development such as the Creative Gateway opening from 2027.

Why does the development need housing, can the college buildings be bought forward as their own entity?

The College does not currently have the funds to undertake such an extensive scheme on its own. As such, in order guarantee that future educational needs are met, the college is seeking to utilise unused land for housing in order to fund the development of its new buildings.

What are you proposing for this site?

There is an extensive investment plan for the St Albans campus which meets local skills demand and the requirement for enhancing places for SEND students. The full plan of investment can be found in the VSC Case. New developments include:

  • Creative Gateway to support the skills required for the developing Film & TV jobs in Hertfordshire
  • High Needs Centre to support the requirement of SEND places available in Hertfordshire
  • Sports Centre to support the requirement of sports related training and playing areas needed for both College students and our community clubs and partners.
